Crochet craziness

Everyone should have a pal like Megan. One of those people who can just make you laugh - and laugh - and laugh. She came over the other night sportin this hat she made - we were practically in tears over the silliness. Let this be a lesson to you - always check your gauge otherwise you skull cap might turn out to be a hair net, or a golf
cap, or a kangol, or it might even be a Halloween costume.

In sort of knitting news lookit what I got from my sock-ret pal!! It's extra special lookit the top of the page. It's SIGNED!! How flippin' cool is that!!! If I didn't have baby knitting to finish by Saturday I'd be casting on about 4 pairs of socks right now - I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Thank-you!!

And the winner is...

Happy Bloggey-birthday to me - and so on. I will not annoy you with my awful singing. Today is the big day - actually it was more like Saturday but whose counting! I picked a name out of my hat and the winner is .... drumroll please... Petra! Congratulations! I'm going to send you an e-mail and will discuss what kind of yummy thing I'm going to get you from Rhinebeck.

I know you've all been waiting with baited breath to find out how I faired in the Sock Wars. I managed to kill Joni within the first week. Then I waited for my new weapon. And I waited. And waited. Went on a quest to find out who was supposed to send me these socks in progress, and waited. Turns out every target down the line was killing of their target right before they got killed themselves. I just kept waiting. Until yesterday when Jessica put me out of my misery. Death has never been so sweet.

Last but not least for your entertainment may I present ... The Worlds Ugliest Excuse For Yarn! Made by little ol' me. It's a yarn only a mother could love full of hard little overspun bits and soft little underspun bits. It is truly crap - but I love it! Now I'm off to make some more - practice, practice, practice!!

It's an Ashford!

Lookie what I got! No I did not run out and buy a spinning wheel. It's on loan from a very generous woman in my guild - I love her. I've learned something very important since aquiring this wheel. I can not walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. Seriously guys how in the world to you treadle and draft at the same time?? I keep winding up with this. I know more than a few of you guys spin so - help!!
If possible I'd like to become respectable at this by Saturday - well maybe respectable is aiming a little high - I'd like to not look like a total moron when I start to test drive wheels at Rhinebeck so any helpful hints you could shoot my way would be great!

Don't forget my bloggy birthday party! You've still got a couple of days to get your name in the hat - all you have to do is DE-LURK!! Leave a comment send an e-mail SHOW YOURSELF!! Walaa name goes in the hat - what could be easier. I'll be picking the name on Thursday so hurry hurry de-lurk now before you forget!

Yea Blogging!!

I love the internets!! A while back I stumbled on a new blog. She takes some awesome photographs and she's a closet knitter which intrigues the hell out of me so I've been back to visit - a lot. Anyway I noticed eventually that she's from Australia (yea brain surgeon here) and didn't have all the neat stuff that we get here. Long story short they don't have Kool-aid in AU. So I HAD to help a knitter out. After much debate I managed to get the lovely Nora's address and I sent her some kool-aid. Well worth the effort - she totally freaked out over it - I LOVE THAT!!

This is what she sent me as a little thank you. If you've never had Tim Tam's you must find an Aussie buddy and make ask them send you some. YUMMY! These are even cooler cuz their all breast cancer decked out! Jo Sharp Alpaca - wow! Can you say soft and yummy and the color is so much better than this craptastic picture (I should totally stop being a lazy blogger and photoshop these pictures before I load them). The stitch markers are awesome! Great minds think alike - there were stitch markers in her box too. Nora - Thank you soo much you really didn't have to do that - but I'm so glad you did!

Oh & check it out. More knitting! Pedicure socks - so your feetsies don't get too cold while your toenails dry. A birthday gift for a quasi knitting friend. She claims she'll knit for me if I knit for her. I think she was scammin' me to get socks. We'll see.

Mmmmm....

Merino!! The color is a little darker and less teal in real life. I'm in love with it. I only have an little bit - maybe an ounce - so it won't ever become anything but oh I like to spin it! And I just thought merino was nice to knit with - HA!Don't forget to de-lurk!! Leave a comment or send me a e-mail knitnthings[at]gmail[dot]com so I can put your name in my hat for the bloggey-birthday drawing. Got to be in it to win it!

What Knitting?

So yesterday my mother tells me - "Jo I took someone to your blog to show off your knitting, and I couldn't find any. I had to WAY back into the archives." Minor oversite. I have been knitting - look here's proof!

This is Trellis from Knitty. I love this pattern! It's easy and adorable! Major bonus points because it's little. It only took me a couple of weeks to do the knitting. Unfortunaly it's been sitting around neglected waiting for me to do the finishing. The baby shower is November 4th so that's plenty of time, but I was having thoughts about making a second sweater. Guess I need to get my act together and finish this one.

It’s my party!

Guess what?! It’s my bloggy-birthday month! Happy bloggy-day to me! Buy me stuff! Just kidding - since it’s my first b-day & all I though I’d run a little contest – the lucky winner will get to –buy me a present! ; ) Just kidding – really you don’t have to buy me stuff. The winner will get something from me and since one of my very first blog posts commemorated my first ever trip to Rhinebeck – I’m going to get the winner something from there. So what I’ll do is pick the winner the week before Rhinebeck then go stalk their blog to see what kind of stuff they like & buy something nice. But I’m not telling who won until I get back with the prezzies – muwahahah!!

I really thought that when I started this blog I’d write just for the sake of writing and no one would read it. I was totally ok with that – I just wanted somewhere to brag about my knitting. For the first month the blog was in existence I kept it a secret - just for me. Then I changed my mind & started telling people and I’ve got to say having people actually read my blog is SO MUCH BETTER!! I’ve made wonderful new friends all over the world and you all totally get the whole knitting thing – love it! . I’m sure there are more than the 6 or so people that comment reading this blog and I’m totally not complaining that you don’t comment cuz I don’t always comment either – but I’m calling you out now!

Here’s what you’ve got to do to get Rhinebeck goodies - all you have to do to win is de-lurk yourself. Either send an e-mail to knitnthings[at]gmail[dot]com with contest in the subject. Or leave me a comment. HOWEVER – if you leave a comment you must include you e-mail address – blogger doesn’t give me your e-mail automatically unless you’ve elected to have it be public so it comes to me with a nonreply@blogger address, which is USELESS! And I won’t be able to track you down to give you your prezzies if you win. Also it would be pretty helpful if you make it kinda easy for me to find your blog – so I can stalk you & buy an appropriate prize. So anyone who comments between now and Rhinebeck (I’m not giving any dates that you guys can hold me too – cuz we know what a spaz I am at keeping those kinds of commitments) will be eligible & I’ll enter you into my hat – and yes I’m going to use a real honest to goodness hat. GOOD LUCK!
